About Course

A complete tour of how the web works and how to build for it — from HTTP and web servers, through semantic HTML, responsive CSS, XML and web services, to browser scripting, Java, JDBC, servlets and MVC. The course ends with an integrated web application that ties every layer together.

What you will learn

  • Trace a request from the browser through DNS, HTTP and the web server, and back again.
  • Write semantic HTML and responsive CSS, and work with XML, JSON, SOAP and REST services.
  • Explain how browsers run JavaScript and AJAX, and how search engines index the web.
  • Build Java programs with classes, interfaces, exceptions, files and GUI events.
  • Connect to a database with JDBC and serve dynamic pages with servlets, JavaBeans and MVC.

How it works

16 lectures in five units. Each lecture has a worked example, a practical lab, homework and a short check quiz.

Prerequisite: CC-112 Programming Fundamentals
